If you’ve ever wanted to take a journey through the wonderful world of The Wizard of Oz, now’s your chance. The Land of Oz theme park in Beech Mountain, North Carolina is re-opening for a month this summer, and it’s every bit as magical and mysterious as its fictional namesake.
The park has a curious history. It first opened in 1970, but the death of the owner and a fire that burned down Emerald City contributed to its closure in 1980. The park stood abandoned for over a decade until it was re-opened in 1991 for one day, and has been opened to the public about once a year since.
This year, however, the park will be open every Friday in the month of June. That means you can explore the yellow brick road on June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 in 2017.
