Multiple plaintiffs began a class action suit against Lia Sophia alleging the company left their direct sales associates holding the bag and misleading customers and newly recruited sales associates when it shut down their multi level marketing sales business in early 2015.
A former sales adviser states the company continued to recruit new sales associates and requiring them to purchase a “starter kit” for anywhere from $99 to $149 even after it announced they would be shutting down the MLM aspect of the business and selling the jewelry directly themselves.
The company is also accused of failing to honor it’s lifetime guarantee on their products.
Lia Sophia agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.
Customers and two levels of sales associates will have until April 2018 to exclude themselves or get more information on the settlement. Payment awarded is to be a portion of money spent (for customers) or a percentage of sales generated for sales advisers.
