How To Use Walmart Savings Catcher To Save More Money
The Walmart Savings Catcher is a fabulous tool, right at your fingertips, that can save you a bunch of money. The best part? It’s absolutely FREE!
If you haven’t downloaded the app, now is the time! The Walmart Savings Catcher app works by comparing prices on your receipt with sales and deals at other local stores and then Walmart reimburses you for the difference in the form of a Walmart gift card.
How does it work?
Using the Walmart Savings Catcher is easy. There are two ways to save using this method. Download the Walmart app. Once you download and open it up, click/touch the 3 lines at the top left corner to open up a drop down menu. “Savings Catcher” is listed about halfway down the page. All you have to do is touch “Add a Walmart Receipt” and it will have you scan the QR Code on your receipt.
The app will scan all the stores in your area for deals and sales and within 72 hours, the amount you saved will be listed in your account. You can choose to cash out each time or combine all your savings into one massive Walmart eGift card.
Note: Sometimes scanning the QR code doesn’t work, so you’ll need to input your receipt number manually. Also, you can only submit a certain number of receipts in a week so use the Savings Catcher on your big trips first in order to save the most money.
You can also submit your receipt through the website. After shopping at Walmart, log into the Savings Catcher website and enter your receipt number and date in the boxes provided. The website will do the rest of the work for you!
Imagine how much time and money you’re going to save by not having to scour all of the local ads just to get the best price.
Don’t Forget to Use Coupons

Walmart doesn’t allow double coupons (see their coupon policy here), but they will give cash back if the coupon you are trying to use is for more than the price of the item you are purchasing. If you have a $2.00 off coupon for an item that is on sale for $1.50, the cashier will apply the left over 50 cents on another item in your cart. If there are no other items in your cart, the cashier would give you the 50 cents back in cash.
Note: It’s best to make sure you have other items in your cart to cover the difference so it’s not as noticeable. Even though it is their policy to do just as I stated above, some cashiers don’t understand the policy as well and will make a big deal about it. Some will even call a manager over to make sure it’s legit. The manager will tell the cashier that it is (or you can show her the policy), but it’s just easier and takes less time if you make sure other items in your cart cover your overage.
Are People Actually Saving While Using This App?
Yes, yes, and yes! I personally use the Walmart Savings Catcher app when I do my big grocery shopping trips and I’ve cashed out several gift cards. I usually wait until it gets to $5 and cash in. If I was more patient, I’d wait until the holidays or a birthday to cash in a big gift card instead.
Let’s face it. You’re not going to get rich by using this app, but at the same time if you’re not using it, you’re literally leaving money on the table. The app is free to download, and it only takes a few seconds to input each receipt. Even if each receipt only savings you $.50 and it takes you a minute to input the information, you’re technically making/saving $30 an hour. I call that a win!
