Can you believe this? This is getting more and more common. This time, the scene is Asheboro, NC. The Asheboro Police along with the CIC (Coupon Information Center) closed in on 35 year old Dylan Adams of nearby Randleman, NC. The charge? 14 felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. In plain language, he is accused of using thousands of dollars in counterfeit coupons to obtain products at Lowe’s Foods, a North Carolina based grocery store chain.
It all started back in August of 2017. Lowe’s Foods management in the Asheboro location contacted the local police complaining of a $5300 + loss due to counterfeit coupons. They were able to give the police store security videos and one eagle eyed employee captured the license plate number of the vehicle Adams drove.
Following a search of Adams’ home, the police discovered thousands of suspected counterfeit coupons, along with evidence he may have been selling or distributing his creations online.
The CIC strongly advises against buying coupons for this very reason.
The Asheboro Police have stated the investigation is still pending and more charges than the 14 felony counts could be coming. Dylan Adams is currently out on bail and awaiting his court date in June. If convicted, Mr. Adams faces up to 25 months in prison.
