When Penny Hammond realized she had been charged $49 and change for her Amazon Prime membership, she decided to call up Amazon and see about getting the charge reversed since she rarely used the membership. She called up who she THOUGHT was Amazon.
She reached someone named “Sam” from Amazon support after calling a number with an 844 exchange. It turned out not to be Amazon. After Sam asked her for her account number he promised a credit for the unwanted membership. The ordeal was far from over.
Shortly after, gift cards for several hundred dollars were ordered from her Amazon account and sent to a person she did not know and certainly did not gift.
