OH NO! If you are like me, and stocked up on these bad boys, time to toss them out! We love Macadamia cookies! :(
A Nationwide Recall has been issued on Diamond of California variety of Macadamia Nuts. BUT WHY??
“The FDA said no illness had been reported ahead of the recall, which was the result of testing by a FDA-contracted laboratory which revealed that a 4 oz. package of Diamond of California® Chopped Macadamia Nuts contained Salmonella.”
Why did they not test it out BEFORE they sent the product to Nationwide Retailers??
“The recall includes 4 oz. Diamond of California® Chopped Macadamia Nuts and 2.25 oz. Diamond of California® Macadamia Halves and Pieces, and refers to multiple production codes, which can be seen on the FDA’s website. “
“Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.”

What are your thoughts? Do you think they should have tested before sending the product out to be sold?
